STUDENTS from a musical theatre school in East Dunbartonshire have landed top roles on stage.

Two boys from the Bishopbriggs-based Backstage Theatre fought off competition from hundreds of hopefuls to star as 'Lost Boys' in Glasgow King's Theatre's 50th anniversary pantomime Peter Pan.

Cameron Millar, 11, from Bishopbriggs said: "It has been an amazing opportunity.

"Lots of hard work, an intense rehearsal period and two shows every second day for six weeks - but I loved every minute of it."

Co star Jamie Campbell, 12, from Kirkintilloch said: "I remember standing on the stage at the King's Theatre for the first time feeling so excited and overwhelmed.

"The audiences were brilliant and every show was just magical."

Backstage Theatre offers classes in musical theatre to children aged 7 to 17 staging two productions every year.

Manager Matt Bingham said: "We are delighted with the success of Cameron, Jamie and all of our students.

"They have grown in confidence, performance technique and had a fantastic time along the way.

"We have had an incredibly successful year - receiving messages of support from Wet Wet Wet and West End star Marti Pellow and former Dr Who David Tennant."
