Blue Lagoon chip shop blaze

A POPULAR city centre chip shop has been destroyed by fire.

Blue Lagoon, Gordon Street

CREWS were called out to the Blue Lagoon on Gordon Street, next to Central Station, shortly after 1pm today.

Three appliances attended the scene and part of the busy city centre street was closed to traffic as firefighters tackled the blaze.

The shop is believed to have been gutted by the fire but there are not thought to be any injuries to staff working at the time.

A spokesman for Network Rail, which operates the station, said services remained unaffected and passengers were not experiencing any disruption.

One of the main archways into the front entrance of Central Station was shut but the side entrances and left half of the main archway are still open.

Fire crews are still at the scene.
