A 14-YEAR-OLD held up a shop at knifepoint - but only escaped with a handful of chocolate eggs.

The teenage thug - who cannot be named for legal reasons - stormed into the Scotmid store in Bearsden, East Dunbartonshire, brandishing a large blade.

He repeatedly demanded alcohol from a shocked shop assistant during the raid on January 15 this year.

However, the woman refused to hand over any booze and eventually pressed a panic alarm.

Prosecutor Ian Wallace told the High Court in Glasgow: "The accused then grabbed a handful of creme eggs from a display before quickly leaving the shop."

The teenager - now aged 15 - was later traced and it led to him yesterday pleading guilty to a charge of assault and robbery.

Lord Burns deferred sentencing the youngster until next month, but continued bail.

However, the judge warned the boy he could well be locked up.

He said: "You have pled guilty to a very serious o ffence for which a sentence of detention is highly likely."
