A MUM battling breast cancer did the 5K Glasgow Race for Life despite being in the middle of gruelling chemotherapy.

Brave Lyndsey McAteer, 30, of Whiteinch, pushed her two-year-old son Harris, round the course in his buggy, raising vital funds for Cancer Research UK.

And although Harris snoozed the whole way round the course, he was more than happy with mum's effort.

For Lyndsey, even reaching the start line was a major achievement, because she was only diagnosed with breast cancer shortly before Christmas.

But after completing the 5K course with colleagues from her work at Clyde Property, as well as friends and family, she said: "I'm totally euphoric.

"Fifty-nine of my friends did this with me today, and we raised more than £6330.

"I'm over the moon. We think it's going to be more than £7000 once all the sponsorship is in."

Lyndsey was diagnosed just four days before last Christmas and had surgery on January 29.

She added: "It's a rare triple negative breast cancer, which means that there's a 70% chance it will come back in the first two years."

Despite having to face more treatment, Lyndsey was determined to complete the 5K.

She added: "My friends and family all said: 'Are you sure you can manage it?'.

"But my work got behind it, donated £2000 and there were 59 in the group today, which I renamed 'All the Breast'."

And Lyndsey has decided that she'll be doing more events like Race for Life.

She said: "I've had a bad diagnosis, the stats are against me, there's 70% chance it can come back, but I'm very focused that I'm going to be in that 30%.

"I'm a single mum, and my wee boy is my life. I didn't want him to think mummy was sick or any different.

"With the job that the Beatson and Maggie's do, I just wanted to give something back."

Almost 14,000 women took part in the event, most raising funds for Cancer Research UK.
