A MAN is seriously ill in hospital after being stabbed in an apparently unprovoked attack after a Christmas night out in Glasgow.

The 39-year-old's brother was also stabbed after he rushed to his aid.

They were attacked after a party at Fairfields Club in Langlands Road, Govan, on Saturday about 3am.

They were making their way to a house in nearby Uist Street with friends shortly after midnight when a man in the street began shouting at them.

They ignored him and continued along the street to the house.

But about three hours later the 39-year-old left the house to call a taxi in the common close to take him home.

Seconds later he was attacked and stabbed by the man who had been shouting at his party earlier, who had been joined by another man.

He shouted for help and his 42-year-old brother ran out of the house to help but was also stabbed.

The two attackers then fled towards Craigton Road.

The victims were taken to the Southern General Hospital, where the 39-year-old is in a serious condition.

His brother was released after treatment.

Detective Constable Kenneth Johnston, of Govan CID, said: "We can find no reason for this unprovoked attack.

"I would appeal to anyone who was in the Langlands Road/Uist Street area from midnight-3am Saturday and who may seen or heard anything to contact us."

The first attacker, who was originally seen in Langlands Road, was white, about 30 and around 6ft, with a shaved head. The second attacker was also in his early 20s, with a stocky build.

Anyone with information should call Govan CID on 0141 532 5400 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
