AN ART student's sculpture of Robert the Bruce is to take pride of place in Cumbernauld Community Park.
Willie Homer, 43, is studying on the NC Art and Design Portfolio course at Cumbernauld College and entered his creation into an annual competition run by Friends of Cumbernauld Community Park to design work for the park.
Members of the organisation were presented with 16 works and Willie's was selected as the winner.
The park has an old Roman road running through it and the statue will eventually be situated on the path.
Barney Kinsley, chairman of Friends of Cumbernauld Community Park, which jointly runs the competition, said: "The winning design is imposing and can be used as a door or gate through which people can go."
Once completed, Willie's sculpture will stand 6ft tall.
Speaking of his winning design, Willie, from Cumbernauld, said: "The idea came from research into previous Bruce sculptures old and new.
"It felt amazing to see my piece come to life –it's always great to see your work in 3D.
"I am stunned. Knowing that my work will be seen by future generations is great."
