EasyJet founder Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou relaunched easyHotel yesterday - a fortnight ahead of schedule and a month after buying the stricken business for £2.3million.

The annoucement was made by Simon Champion, chief executive of the easyHotel chain.

He said: "I am delighted that we have been able to recruit local staff, so that we are ready to open our doors two weeks ahead of schedule.

"We look forward to bringing value to tourists and business customers alike - giving them added spending power for the rest of their Glasgow visit."

Room rates start from £15 Sunday to Friday and £19 per night at weekends. Five rooms are being offered for £9 each during January, February and March.

The 125-room hotel in Hill Street went bust a year after it opened.

A consortium of businessmen had spent up to £7m buying and converting Drummond House - a 70s office block - before running the new hospitality business under the easyHotel brand as part of a franchise deal.

But the city centre budget hotel was shutdown last May after spiralling conversion costs resulted in significant debts.

The business was put in administration but rescued by Sir Stelios following a bidding war in the run-up to Christmas.
