STAR exhibits from the world famous Burrell Collection are to go on display in London's West End.

It will be the first time any of the important artefacts have been brought together for an exhibition outside Scotland.

They will go on show at Bonhams in New Bond Street in advance of an international tour which will allow art lovers around the world to see some of the 9000 items from the Glasgow collection.

Burrell at Bonhams - A Selection of Treas-ures from Glasgow, will be on display from December 15 until January 9.

Among the 45 "star objects" selected for the show are the bedhead of King Henry VIII and Princess Anne of Cleves, Chateau Of Medan by Paul Cezanne, and Self-Portrait by Rembrandt van Rijn (1632).

Sir Angus Grossart, chairman of Burrell Renaissance and a board member of Glasgow Life, said: "The time has come to liberate the full potential of Sir William Burrell's extraordinary collection and see it achieve its rightful place on the international stage.

"This exhibition is a prelude to an international tour which will, for the first time, see objects loaned to major institutions around the world."

Colin Sheaf, chair-man of Bonhams UK Board, said: "Bonhams is thrilled to be exhibit-ing a wide range of international master-works from this superb Glasgow collection."

The Burrell Collect-ion building, which opened in 1983, requires a full refurbishment.

Glasgow Life chairman Archie Graham said: "While work is ongoing, we have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to share these great treasures with the world."
