A BUS gate, which snared almost 50,000 drivers, will be 'revoked' while work is carried out.

The Evening Times yesterday revealed 49,716 motorists were issued with fixed penalty tickets at Nelson Mandela Place during a six-month period.

While Scottish Water mains works are carried out West Nile Street will be closed between West George Street and St Vincent Street.

The closure will be in place from 5am on Monday until 10pm on Friday April 10.

A Traffic Information Bulletin read: "The Bus Gate at Nelson Mandela Place will be revoked for diverted traffic."

The Nelson Mandela lane was introduced on June 30 last year and the Evening Times revealed last September how 28,000 drivers were caught in the first nine weeks.
