A NEW cafe which serves up training for young disadvantatged adults is so busy bosses have had to put their official opening celebrations on the back burner.

A date has still to be organised to toast the launch of the Windmill Cafe even though it opened weeks ago in the shopping centre at Motherwell, North Lanarkshire.

The cafe trains 18-25 year-olds who have learning disabilities and helps them obtain a nationally recognised qualification.

The Windmill's development officer Margery McBain said: "We wanted to hold an official opening to thank everyone for their support in getting the café up and running.

"But we have been so busy that we just haven't been able to make the time which is a lovely problem to have.

"We hope to help around 30 young people a year gain a qualification that will enable them to go on to full time employment."

The cafe is located in the busy retail mall at Brandon Parade East where another vacant unit has been let to the family jewellery business of Peter Francis and opened at the weekend.

Two neighbouring units remain empty although an undisclosed trader is in talks with the centre's owners, Chester Properties.
