Glasgow’s community of female entrepreneurs is expanding as more women attend events organised by the Women Into Business (WIB) group.
The WIB programme, part of the Business Gateway service, has seen such a dramatic rise in attendances at its events that it has had to move to a larger venue.
Its March networking event will now take place at Caledonian University on Tuesday 16, at 6pm, and is expected to draw the largest crowd yet.
The free evening will
feature talks from two successful Scottish businesswomen who will pass on tips and share their stories on how to Build a Confident Business.
Headlining will be Jane Burridge who, with her husband, set up an architecture practice in 2006. Since then, a+j Burridge has become a flourishing business.
Jane said: “Business Gateway and WIB events provide a great opportunity to learn about what is needed to start a business and also to meet other like-minded females.
“I had worked in architecture for more than 20 years but starting my own business presented a whole set of different challenges. Key to our success has been developing a good support network.”
Also appearing at the event will be Amy McDonald, founder of Creative Training Unlimited, a firm which uses a combination of business, creative and theatre skills to improve people’s social and presentational abilities.
Ms McDonald said: “I’m delighted to take part in the WIB event. I benefited from their free support and advice so it’s great to be doing something for them for a change.”
WIB facilitator Jackie Loughery, of Oryx Solutions, a Glasgow-based business and personal development consultancy, said: “We are delighted with the increase in members over the last few months. We have been steadily expanding our numbers as more and more women take advantage of our services.”
