AN addiction charity has called for an overhaul of Scotland's drug laws.
Addaction said the criminialisation approach was "not supported by evidence" and called for a new policy which better supports recovery.
The charity said evidence for what promotes recovery and rehabilitation had been sidelined.
It called for Scotland to control its own drug laws and move towards a system which treats addiction as a health issue.
The charity is staging a two-day conference in Glasgow.
Andrew Horne, Director of Operations, Addaction Scotland said: "Addaction has nearly 50 years of experience in the sector and we have seen that custodial sentences are rarely an effective response."
