The 22-year-old spent four years working towards his HNC and HND qualifications in Sports Coaching with Development of Sport.
And now he has started his Sports Coaching degree at the University of West of Scotland.
Calvin, from Bellshill, said: "It was a shock when I found out that I had won an Achievement Award as I felt there were other deserving candidates but I'm really pleased that all my hard work I put in during my time at Cumbernauld College has paid off."
After leaving school in 2009, Calvin was unsure what he wanted to do next.
He tried several jobs before deciding that furthering his education was his best option.
His time at Cumbernauld College gave him the chance to spend the summer of 2012 in America coaching at different camps across the country.
He said: "I thought that working in America would give me an advantage when applying to university and for jobs in the future.
"I spent three and a half months coaching football and it was an amazing experience. I was based in Los Angeles but we travelled around, I think I was in seven different states during the summer.
"It gave me some life experience and the chance to work with people from different backgrounds and cultures.
"It really cemented for me that a career in the sports industry is what I want to do. It was my best experience I have done so far, it was fantastic."
After completing his final year at college, Calvin progressed to his degree year at the University of the West of Scotland.
