To mark 10 years of the Yorkhill Children's Foundation bosses are asking for help to name the charity's mascot bear.

He's been the furry face of the fundraising charity for Glasgow's childrens hospital since 2001, but poor Bear has never had a name.

Now supporters of the charity are being invited to text in their suggestions for what Bear's name should be.

David Welch, head of fundraising at Yorkhill Children's Foundation, said: "Our bear needs a name and we are asking supporters from all over the country to get behind us and send in their suggestions.

"We're looking forward to celebrating a decade of amazing support from people from throughout Scotland and beyond and as we look back at the innovative medical equipment, family support, paediatric research and training and additional services that have been provided to children and their families over the years, we can see the difference that has been made and we will concentrate on continuing to make that difference."

The charity helps more than 157,000 children from all over Scotland who attend Yorkhill Hospital each year.

And its new text competition is being launched as part of Yorkhill Week, from September 17 to 25, and part of Yorkhill Children's Foundation's 10th Anniversary celebrations.

The winner of the Name the Bear competition will be invited to meet the Bear in person at Hamleys Toy Store in Glasgow on September 17.

Hamleys will also be donating a prize to the competition winner.

To enter text "Yorkhill" followed by a chosen name to 70003.

Each message will give a donation of £3, which will go towards helping sick children and babies from throughout Scotland who are treated at Yorkhill Hospital and related facilities.

l To mark Yorkhill Week the Evening Times will be running a special series looking at the work of the organisation past and present.
