VICTIMS of cancer caused by asbestos have received an average of £126,000 each under a Government compensation scheme, Minister for Disabled People Mark Harper has announced.
A total of £16.5 million was paid out since the scheme opened in July, with payouts far higher than the original £123,000 estimate.
The fund was set up for mesothelioma sufferers who could not trace a liable employer.
