A TERMINALLY ill woman who refused treatment to care for her dying son has been given the chance to complete part of her bucket list at a top spa.

Gayle Chestnut McElhinney, 35, was invited along for free treatments at EVE Spa, in Paisley, after bosses heard a spa day was part of her bucket list.

Gayle, from Houston, suffers from the genetic condition, Li-Fraumeni Syndrom (LFS), which increases the chances of having cancer.

After beating breast cancer in 2008, Gayle was advised to undergo a double-mastectomy to decrease the chances of the disease returning, but she refused in order to care for her youngest son, Kane, who was diagnosed with liver cancer after inheriting LFS.

Despite Gayle having the operation after Kane died aged 12, the tumours spread throughout her body.

Gayle is now undergoing chemotherapy in the hope it will prolong her life and is working through her bucket list.

After ticking off a spa day and marrying long-term partner Robert, Gayle still has more to do, including a castle stay and seeing her 17-year-old son Daniel pass his driving test.

She said: "I just love to have a spa day with the girls and get pampered.

"It's one of my favourite days out with my friends."
