COUNCIL bosses have stopped any new admissions to a Paisley care home amid concerns about the standard of residents' care and the cleanliness of the premises.

The privately operated Abbey Court home is run by Four Seasons (Bamford) Ltd.

Officials from the council and the Care Inspectorate have been working to investigate a number of complaints from families.

This has involved the local authority actively reviewing the care arrangements in place for every one of the residents.

Council staff have paid regular visits to the home and families looking to a move a loved one into Abbey Court are being offered alternative placements.

Four Seasons (Bramford) has been informed of the concerns and the Care Inspectorate has written families outlining the steps being taken to restore standards as soon as possible.

Renfrewshire council leader Mark Macmillan said: "I want to reassure families we are doing everything possible to improve standards of care at Abbey Court,

"The council has suspended any new placements being made at the care home until we have evidence improvements in service have been sustained.

"We have been undertaking care reviews of residents to ensure they are receiving a service which is of acceptable standard. These will be concluded in the coming week.

"Council officers will continue to have a significant presence at Abbey Court for the foreseeable future and we will continue to work with the home and the Care Inspectorate to secure sustained improvements."

The Care Inspectorate is an independent body responsible for the regulation of care services in Scotland.

The letter to families says: "If you have visited the home recently you may be aware of changes to the care home staff and management and the presence of council officers and other professions.

"This enhanced presence is in response to concerns and complaints which have been raised with us by both the Care Inspectorate and families of current and past Abbey Court residents.

"We have been undertaking care reviews of everyone living at Abbey Court and will review the remainder of residents in the coming week to ensure they are receiving a service which meets their needs and is of an acceptable standard.

"Council officers will continue to have a significant presence in Abbey Court over the coming weeks and months and will continue to work with the home to secure sustained improvements."
