CATS got the cream of city stage talent

HOLLYWOOD'S Alan Cumming was back on home ground to present Scotland's theatre 'Oscars' in an event which sees Glasgow' stage arts people take a bow.

The X-Men 2 actor, an ex-RSAMD student, handed out the gongs at the Critics Awards for Theatre Scotland, or CATS, in The Tron Theatre.

And the Bard in the Botanics shows, which sees Shakespeare plays performed at the Botanic Gardens, was among the winners with Stephen Clyde taking the award for Best Male Performance for his role as Bottom in A Midsummer Night's Dream.

National Theatre of Scotland show A Christmas Carol, staged in Govan Town Hall, landed the award for Best Production and Best Ensemble.

Kieran Hurley's Beats by the Arches Theatre Company scooped the award for Best New Play while Paddy Cunneen, took the Best Music And Sound award for King Lear at the Citizens Theatre.

Best Director title went to Dominic Hill, director of the Citizens, for Betrayal at the Theatre.

The Evening Times-backed A Play A Pie and A Pint series at Oran Mor, and its creator David MacLennan scooped the inaugural CATS Whiskers award for outstanding achievement for presenting 250 plays in eight years.
