THREE sex beasts who gang-raped a terrified woman are still on the loose - almost a year after the sickening attack.

Cops told the Evening Times they are "confident" the horrific incident was a "one off", but revealed CCTV cameras have since been installed in the area the gang rape took place.

Additional police patrols are also continuing to take place in Toryglen, 10 months after the savage attackers struck, we can today reveal.

The 33-year-old was dragged up a close and gang raped in Edinbeg Avenue, between midnight and 3am on Saturday May 10.

A massive police hunt was launched to find the three men who carried out the attack.

However, the rapists are still at large.

CCTV cameras have been installed near to where the rape took place and Toryglen residents say it has been a big improvement and is helping to reassure people.

One woman who lives nearby said: "There are always groups of young men hanging about the area where the rape took place.

"It can be quite intimidating, especially after what happened there.

"I am sure the new cameras will make people feel safer."

Police Scotland said the investigation into the gang rape remains "live" and a spokesman added: "However to date there have been no arrests made."

Officers hope the installation of security cameras will not only restore public confidence but deter yobs from hanging about.

A police spokesman said: "The location of this crime remains an area of priority policing which is the focus of additional patrols by the police and partner agencies.

"This is due mainly to residents' reports of disorder from time to time, committed by local youths.

"We are confident that this crime was a one off incident, as there have been no similar reported crimes of this nature made to the police, since the date the incident took place.

"Additionally, public space CCTV cameras have now been installed in the area of Toryglen and this has helped significantly to restore public confidence and deter anti-social behaviour.

"All information provided to Police Scotland by members of the public is carefully considered and investigated.

"Police Scotland continues to appeal for anyone with any information to contact them on 101."

Glasgow was stunned by a spate of sex attacks last year, prompting thousands of people to join a midnight protest march.

As well as the gang attack in Toryglen, a 24-year-old woman was allegedly raped in Dixon Road in May.

And three months earlier, a 26-year-old woman was subjected to a sexual assault in Dixon Avenue, near Victoria Road.

However, the latest police figures show the number of reported rapes in Glasgow has fallen by 40%.

And arrests for sex offences in the city are up 18%.

Police Scotland recently made major changes to the way serious sex crime is investigated, with a greater focus on the wellbeing of victims.

Before the dedicated unit of Solos - sexual offence liaison officers - was launched, sex crimes were dealt with by general CID officers.

Detective Superintendent Peter McPike, said: "Our message is clear: responsibility for sexual violence lies with the perpetrators.

"This predatory and exploitative behaviour has to stop."
