POLICE have released CCTV images of a man they are searching for following a hammer attack near a Glasgow supermarket.

Police believe the man may be able to help with inquiries into the assault on a man in Summerston.

A 35-year-old was hit in the face with a hammer in Gorstan Street, near the Asda store.

The attacker had approached the victim, who was standing in the lane near the store with another man, and started talking to him.

He then punched him and hit him with the hammer before running off towards nearby Arrochar Street.

The victim was rushed to the Western Infirmary and later discharged following treatment.

Although the images have just been released, the incident happened on Thursday, May 15 at about 9.05am.

Police are hoping to speak to the man in the CCTV film as they think he may be able to help with their investigation.

He is white, about 5ft 10in and of slim build. At the time he was wearing dark trousers, dark shoes and a dark hooded top with yellow stripes on the arms.

Anyone with information or anyone who recognises the man in the image is asked to contact officers at Maryhill police office on the police non-emergency number, 101.
