A HOST of Scots celebrities have joined a campaign to help vulnerable children and their families.

Big names including actors Colin McCredie, Elaine C Smith and James Cosmo, along with singer Clare Grogan and First Minister Nicola Sturgeon have signed up for a charity 'Join the Resolution' campaign to put children first.

And they want Glasgow and the west of Scotland to get involved in making a lasting difference to the lives of our young people.

Taggart and Shallow Grave star Colin said the heartbreak wishes from youngsters were behind the Children 1st campaign.

Some of those wishes included a happy and loving home, food and a life free of fear of violence.

Colin, who is the People's Postcode Lottery ambassador for Children 1st, urged his fellow Glaswegians to get involved.

He said: "I've been lucky to meet some of the children and young people the charity works with.

"I remember one 14-year-old boy saying Children 1st had been his 'salvation'.

"The support they give can be a lifeline, so please join the resolution and give a donation to this worthwhile cause."

Children 1st chief executive Alison Todd said she wanted to make sure that making a commitment to hep vulnerable children in our communities is a New Year's resolution everyone will keep.

She added: "There are too many children in Scotland who are suffering abuse and violence and for whom there is nothing to look forward to in the New Year.

"We need to send these children a strong message of hope that the people of Scotland are ready to put them first.

"We want people to make a New Year's resolution to take action and help a child in 2015.

"Your resolution can be big or small - whatever you decide, we'll help you keep it.

"Come join us and send the message that children are not alone, that you care, that you'll help."

Among the first to make a commitment was First Minister Nicola Sturgeon who insisted she was absolutely committed to making Scotland a better place for kids.

She said: "My resolution is to do everything I can to make sure Scotland is the best place in the world for young people to grow up."

Actress and comedienne Elaine C Smith pledged to spread the word about the fantastic work carried out by the children's charity.

She said: "I will ensure to tell at least five people about the wonderful work done by Children 1st."

Altered Images singer and Glaswegian Clare Grogan promises to listen more to her own daughter too as part of this year's resolution.

She said: "My little girl is always saying to me: 'Mum you're not listening to me'. So, I promise, I'm going to become a better listener."

The campaign was inspired by wishes from children and young people that the charity works with for making Scotland a better place to live.

The wishes, collected to mark Children 1st's 130th anniversary, revealed that many children wanted simple things others take for granted and are now on display in the charity's Glasgow office.
