A CELTIC fan who inspired a children's charity to be set up has died in hospital.

Martin Kane, who was originally from Glasgow, passed away in Australia on Thursday night after his family took the decision to switch off his life support.

The 46-year-old, who was known as Kano, had been suffering from a rare debilitating medical condition for six years.

Martin, who lived in Perth, Western Australia, leaves behind wife Carolyn and two children Sean,21, and 18-year-old Alanna.

He was struck down with Devic's Syndrome in 2008, which is similar to MS.

Celtic fans raised thousands of pounds in just a few hours when they heard the Celtic fan was stuck in a hospital unable to go home unless his house was re-fitted to cope with his needs.

The 'Bring Martin Home' campaign raised over £60,000 in just a few weeks.

Following the success some fans decided to keep raising money to help youngsters attend football games.

The Kano Foundation was officially launched in 2010 by Scots actor David Hayman and since then they have helped over 3000 disadvantaged and deserving children.
