YOUNG patients at Yorkhill Hospital were given an early Christmas present when Celtic football stars made a surprise visit.

Members of the first-team squad visited a number of wards and presented gifts to children.

The players also delivered a £3000 donation to the hospital as part of the club's Charity Christmas Appeal.

Celtic captain Scott Brown said: "We are proud of the great association which the club has with Yorkhill and as a team we are really pleased to make this special visit.

"It can be very hard for everyone in hospital and their families, particularly at Christmas time and we are delighted to take time out to go and see some very deserving kids.

"It is important we also thank the staff at the hospital for all they do.

"They make such a positive difference to the children and they deserve huge praise for the work they do throughout the year in providing such great care to the children."

Players - including Anthony Stokes and Leigh Griffiths - signed autographs and posed for pictures with patients and staff, and the kids were also given special gifts.

Celtic chief executive, Peter Lawwell, said: "Celtic and Yorkhill Hospital have become close friends through a partnership which stretches back years.

"We are delighted to have such a close relationship with an institution which for so many years has done so much good in the city in looking after children in need.

"We wish all the children at the hospital and the magnificent staff, a very Merry Christmas."
