NEW guidance on tobacco- related harm could influence Scottish Government policy.
A report by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence recommends that licensed nicotine-containing products could help people who can't stop smoking in one step to cut down.
The Tobacco Control Strat-egy for Scotland said earlier it would await the findings before considering what advice to give on tobacco harm reduction.
Institute director Professor Mike Kelly said: "This is the first time in the world that national guidance will endorse cutting down with the help of licensed nicotine products, such as gum."
