CITY centre businesses were plunged into darkness after a sudden power cut.
The shortage happened around 5pm this evening, with Scottish Power hurriedly working to restore supplies across the G2 postcode.
Shoppers in Waterstones reported a blackout in the Sauchiehall Street store after the sudden power outage.
The GFT in Garnethill was another of the affected venues and was forced to cancel three screenings as part of the annual Glasgow Film Festival.
Organisers told cinema goers that the early evening screenings of Warsaw, Uprising, Jauja and Red Amnesia were cancelled, and offered film fans a refund.
Later screenings of other films are still to go ahead as the venue's power was restored shortly after 6pm.
A Film Festival spokeswoman said: "We cancelled the screenings to take the pressure off the projectors.
"We've been told about 500 businesses were affected in total.
"We took urgent action because obviously audience and staff safety is our top priority and we evacuated the building to make sure.
"We will be issuing refunds to anyone who had tickets to the early evening screenings."
