As reported in later editions of last night's Evening Times, officers were called to an incident in a tenement block at 6.35am yesterday.

A man, who is thought to have been stabbed, was rushed to Glasgow Royal Infirmary where he later died.

Shettleston Road, where the disturbance occurred, was closed yesterday morning to allow emergency services access to the scene.

Last night the road remained shut and motorists were being diverted from the scene.

Murder squad detectives are looking into what exactly happened in the first-floor flat, which sits close to the junction with South Vesalius Street.

Residents claimed they saw a woman flee the property through the window, which was yesterday seen lying open. Officers from nearby Shettleston Police station were on the scene in minutes and the road was cordoned off shortly before 7am.

It is understood a Polish couple live in the flat.

The area is home to a large Polish community with popular Polish cafe, Bar u Jessici, just a few doors along from the property.

Neighbours said they saw officers from Shettleston Police station run along the road to the flat.

They then saw the man being stretchered out of the close and taken to a waiting ambulance.

Local shops within the police cordon were told they would not be able to trade yesterday while investigations were underway.

A police spokeswoman confirmed that the death is being treated as suspicious and that investigations are continuing.
