SOME of the world's best card players are jetting into Glasgow for a bridge tournament that will attract a global audience of millions of enthusiasts.
The city is hosting the Commonwealth Nations Bridge Championship next week, with about 200 players from more than 20 countries taking part.
It starts on Monday at the Radisson Blu Hotel in the city centre and pictures and live commentary will be beamed around the world.
The contest is held every four years in the city that has just hosted the Commonwealth Games.
The Scottish Bridge Union is organising the event, which will attract teams from 22 countries, including Kenya, Barbados, Canada, Singapore, India and Australia.
City council leader Gordon Matheson, who chairs Glasgow City Marketing Bureau, said: "As one of the world's top 10 sporting cities, Glasgow's reputation has grown as a leader for successfully delivering world-class events.
"This event will welcome people from all walks of life with the same ambitions - to compete in the bridge arena at elite level."
Scotland will have three teams going for glory. The senior team has an average age of 69 and recently reached the quarter finals of the Bermuda Bowl.
When the event finishes on Sunday, September 14 there will be a celebration banquet and ceilidh.
