CELEBRATIONS for Armed Forces Day were marked with a flyover and a parade in Glasgow.

Lord Provost Sadie Docherty led the celebrations in George Square. A pair of RAF Typhoon jets flew over the city and entertainment included the Speedway Tigers, Glasgow's motorcycle team, the Cumbrian Pipe Band and military exhibits, including vintage Jeeps.

Mrs Docherty said: "It is important our serving military and our veterans know they have the support of this city and the whole of Britain.

"A highlight for me, as well as the march past and the music of the Royal Marines Band Scotland, is the opportunity to meet veterans and servicemen and women."

Rear Admiral Christopher Hockley, of the Royal Navy, who was also in Glasgow, said: "We appreciate the honour Glasgow has bestowed on us with this special service and continue to thank the public for their unstinting and fond support."
