A GLASGOW nurse has been suspended after he was arrested on suspicion of downloading child porn.

Christopher Anstey, 39, from Partick, was charged by police after officers swooped in the Govan area of the city.

The nurse, who is employed at the Southern General Hospital, was suspended by NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde two days later.

An interim suspension order of 18 months was also imposed by the Nursing and Midwifery Council pending the outcome of the criminal investigation.

The nurse, who works at ward 24 of the hospital, which treats patients with blood diseases, was arrested on November 21 last year. He appeared in private on petition at Glasgow Sheriff Court the next day.

He made no plea or declaration to the charges. A further court date has not yet been set.

He was bailed on condition that he does not have any unsupervised contact with children.

A ban was also imposed on his use of any devices capable of deleting the browsing history on a computer or smartphone.

The nurse was not present for the hearing of the Nursing and Midwifery Council.

The NMC said: "The allegations are serious, involving the downloading of pornographic material involving children."

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland confirmed the nurse was arrested and charged on November 21 last year.

A spokeswoman for NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde said: "We can confirm that a member of staff has been suspended pending the outcome of a Nursing and Midwifery Council hearing."
