The event will also be an opportunity for the sportsmen and women to thank the crowds who cheered them on to glory.

The parade will start at Kelvingrove Art Gallery at 4.15pm as a fleet of buses will carry Team Scotland through the city to George Square.

The cavalcade is expected to arrive in the square, where they will be greeted by cheerring crowds of family, friebds and supporters, at 5.30pm.

Two years ago, there was a huge turnout when the Scottish athletes who took part in the London Olympics and Paralympics took the same route through the city centre.

The Commonwealth Games stars, many of whom are expected to wear their gold, silver and bronze medals, will celebrate their success at a party in George Square with up to 5000 people. It will be attended by 2500 of their friends and family and Games volunteers along with 1500 members of the public.

Louise Martin, chairwoman of sportscotland, said: "The Team Scotland Parade through Glasgow tomorrow will be a fantastic and fitting finale to the best ever Commonwealth Games.

"After their record-breaking performances, I am sure people from across Scotland will come out to show their appreciation for what they achieved during the Games.

"It also gives the athletes a final chance to say thank you to the whole country for the support they had during a memorable 11 days of competition, and everyone is looking forward to it."
