THE action at a top swimming competition will be shown on YouTube.

Big names, including Robbie Renwick, Hannah Miley and Caitlin McClatchey, will battle it out in the Scottish Gas National Open Championships at Tollcross International Swimming Centre, from today.

And daily reports and interviews from the event can be watched at www.youtube.com/ ScottishSwimming.

It has been two years since Scottish Swimming last held a national championship at the venue, which has been closed for a £13.8m upgrade.

The pool now boasts an extra 1000 seats, and a new six-lane 50m warm up pool has been created ahead of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Forbes Dunlop, Scottish Swimming's chief executive, said: "Returning to Tollcross will give added incentive to our athletes to perform well and give them a taste of what could be in a little over 13 months' time.

"I'm looking forward to and would encourage as many people as possible to come down to the Scottish Gas National Open Championships and witness some of Scotland's best swimmers in action at a Games venue ahead of a busy summer of World, European and National events."

Swimmers will be using the meet as final race practise ahead of the World Championships trials in Sheffield later this month.

The Glasgow competition will run until Sunday, with the first session kicking off at 8.45am this morning.

Councillor Archie Graham, chairman of Glasgow Life and the executive member for the Commonwealth Games, said: "It will be the first chance people will have to see some of the best swimmers in the world go for gold in the very same venue that will host the swimming competitions at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.

"The wait is over – international swimming is back at Tollcross."

Ticket prices start from £3 for adults and £1.50 for concessions.
