A GLASGOW school pupil has received a second royal invite to Buckingham Palace.

Mairead Stevenson, of Bannerman High School, in Baillieston, will meet the Queen today at a special event in London.

The 17-year-old was one of 25 youngsters from the school to take part in the Queen's Baton Relay Launch last Wednesday.

And the lucky teenager has been invited back to a reception at the Palace to celebrate Youth, Education and the Commonwealth.

Jackie Purdie, head teacher at Bannerman High, said: "This is another fantastic opportunity for Mairead and I know she will make us all very proud.

"The pupils last week did phenomenally well representing their school and their city. It's a day in their life they will never forget.

"Mairead is a perfect ambassador, as are many Bannerman High pupils, and I could not be more proud."

Mairead was chosen by Unicef UK to take part in the reception where the Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh will be in attendance.

Unicef has partnered with the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games to work towards transforming children's lives in every Commonwealth country.

As part of this, the Queen's Baton will visit Unicef-supported projects as it travels around the Commonwealth and will be carried by children who have benefited from those projects.

Last week, Mairead and 24 fellow Bannerman Pupils travelled to London to carry flags of the Commonwealth at the Queen's Baton Relay Ceremony.

The group met Sir Chris Hoy, the six-time gold Olympian, double Commonwealth champion and Unicef UK ambassador and stood just feet away from Her Majesty.
