COLLEGE students struck gold when they gave free makeovers to athletes who jetted into Glasgow for the Commonwealth Games.
With a global television audience of more than a billion they all wanted to look their best and turned for help to a beauty and hair salon set up in the athletes village.
The salon was manned by 80 students from West College Scotland.
They treated hundreds of sportsmen and women with massages, hair styling, nail painting and body art services.
There was no charge for the makeovers but grateful athletes gave donations and today college bosses revealed more than £5200 was raised.
The money is to be split between Unicef and the Scottish Commonwealth Games Youth Trust.
Trust official Pete Nicolson said the cash injection will help future Team Scotland athletes to reach their full potential.
