SIGN UP FOR REFURBISHED FLATS

DOZENS of new homes have been created as a result of a £1.75million rescue package.

The red sandstone flats, off Garscube Road, were to have been demolited.

However, Queens Cross Housing Association reviewed the plans and put together a rescue package with grant funding from Glasgow City Council.

The first of 44 new homes, which include 28 flats for social rent and 16 for sale, are expected to be ready in January.

All of the one and two-bedroom flats in Ancroft Street and Nansen Street will be fully modernised, with open plan living and dining areas, new kitchens, enhanced insulation and video door entry system.

Inquiries for the first eight flats for sale are being taken now, with prices from £90,000.

Shona Stephen, chief executive of the association, said the speed of progress "means we are able to provide even more desperately needed affordable homes".

Tickets are £5 per person and include refreshments. Book online at www. glasgowmackintosh.com or call 0141 946 6600.

READING EVENT FOR KIDS

THE Children's Wood is hosting a Hallowe'en event.

Actor Tam Dean Burn will be reading Julia Donaldson's Room on the Broom on October 31.

Children are being encouraged to dress up and enjoy a Hallowe'en meal together. It follows other reading events which have attracted hundreds of families to the North Kelvin Meadow.

More than 1500 people have signed an online petition to save the West End green space. The council is proposing to allow 90 flats to be built in the area, between Clouston Street, Sanda Street and Kelbourne Street.
