FAVOURITE images of Glasgow's green spaces are being collected in a special competition.

Dear Green Places – Glasgow's 'parklife' competition – aims to get the best pictures of how people use the city's parks, be it sunbathing on the 'Hill' in Kelvingrove Park or walking your dog in Pollok Park.

Organisers want to gather a collection of images with stories or memories that show how people use parks, community gardens, meadows and allotments.

People of all ages are invited to enter the contest in two categories, over 18s and under 18s.

It is part of the Glasgow Science Festival and a selection of the best images will be on display at the Glasgow, Naturally family weekend at Kelvingrove Museum and Art Gallery on June 15 and 16. All entries will be showcased in an online photo album.

Dr Deborah McNeill, director of the Glasgow Science Festival, said: "It is a photo competition, but it is not about the quality of the photo itself, it is about the content.

"What we are looking for is for people to email us photos – it could be from your smartphone, all the way up to someone who has a professional image.

"Ideally we are asking people to put a caption, or a bit of chat that goes with it, to explain what prompted them to take the picture.

"It could be people, your friends, your family, using these spaces, it could be the wildlife, the fauna the flora, it could be anything at all.

"Whether its picnics in Pollok, buttercups in Botanics or 'taps aff' for a tan in Kelvingrove, we want to know what you love about Glasgow's parks."

The deadline for entries is Friday, June 7.

Judges including members of the Science Festival team and an Evening Times photographer will choose the winner of each category.

To enter, email your photo to sciencefestival@glasgow.ac.uk with 'Dear Green Places' in the subject line.

The email should also contain your full name, a title for your photograph and a caption or story behind it.
