Connery among stars as film library opens in city

SEAN Connery – as you've rarely seen him before – is appearing at a redeveloped Glasgow theatre.

Television footage of the star will be available to watch at the new library in the old Olympia Theatre, in Bridgeton.

The building, at Bridgeton Cross, will reopen tomorrow as a community hub and Scotland's first British Film Institute Mediatheque library.

Attractions include a specially commissioned collection of Scottish film and television from Gregory's Girl to the little known Connery film The Bowler and Bunnet.

The 1967 television production was directed by and featured the James Bond star, who focused on the decline of Glasgow's shipyards.

The Scottish Reels collection is among 2500 films and television programmes which the public can access for free. BFI's creative director Heather Stewart said: "Seeing a film shot in Glasgow in 1901 gives you a real sense of the past in a way that no other medium can."
