INVESTIGATIONS are continuing after a man and a woman were viciously attacked while waiting for a taxi.

The couple, a 27-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman, were assaulted by a man and a woman in Annette Street, near Allison Street, in the Govanhill area of Glasgow.

The pair suffered head and facial injuries in the "very frightening" ordeal, which happened at about 1am on Saturday.

Police said the couple had been at a party in Annette Street and were heading for a taxi when they became involved in an argument with another couple who had shouted at them from across the street.

The attackers approached them and the woman was punched and kicked to the ground by the female suspect. The man was hit on the head with a weapon by the male suspect.

Both victims were taken by ambulance to the Victoria Infirmary, where the woman is still being treated for serious facial injuries. The man was released after treatment to a head injury.

Police are asking anyone with information about what happened to come forward.

The suspects are both white, Scottish and in their mid 20s. The woman had her hair in a bun and it is thought she was wearing red boots.

The man had short dark hair and was around 5ft 8in to 5ft 10in. He had a slim build and was wearing a light-coloured top.

Detective Constable Claire Anderson, of Gorbals CID, said: "It was a vicious and very frightening attack.

"The friends heard the disturbance outside and ran to their aid, helping them into the close for safety.

"The suspects then tried to force the close door open but didn't manage and made off along Annette Street towards Calder Street.

"We believe a third man, wearing light blue top, and blue tracksuit bottoms, joined the suspects after the assault.

"We are checking CCTV in the area, but would appeal to anyone who saw the incident to contact Gorbals CID on 0141 532 5355, the non-emergency number 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
