Cops search ex-ref's home

The home of a former referee in the English Premier League has been searched by police over alleged anti-Catholic messages posted on his website after a Celtic v Rangers match.

Officers from Strathclyde Police seized "various items of equipment" from Jeff Winter's house in Middlesbrough. The investigation is over remarks posted on his website after Celtic defeated Rangers last December.

Mr Winter refereed hundreds of English games, ending his career after the 2004 FA Cup Final.
