COUNCIL bosses are to investigate making a bid to bring another international sporting event to Glasgow.
The World Masters Games is expected to attract around 50,000 competitors to this year's event, held in Turin, Italy, with an anticipated economic boost of 100million euros.
The event, like the Olympics, is held every four years but is for sports people of all abilities.
Bob Doris, Glasgow SNP MSP, asked the council to consider entering the bidding for the next available Games in 2021, with the contest to open in 2015.
He wrote to council leader Gordon Matheson and Scottish Government Sports Minister Shona Robison to seek their support.
Mr Doris said: "I welcome the council's commitment to looking at the submission of a bid to host the 2021 Games.
"We all hope the Commonwealth Games next year will be a huge success and put Glasgow on the sporting map.
"However, I believe it would be even better if that were just to be the beginning of a decade of international sport in our city.
"We have already bid for the 2018 Youth Olympics, and completing the hat-trick with the World Masters Games would ensure a lasting legacy."
The Games are open to athletes over the age of 30 with no upper limit.
