Councillor calls in lawyers over blog corruption allegations

THE former deputy leader of a Scots council is consulting lawyers over corruption claims made by a fellow councillor.

LibDem Renfrewshire councillor Eileen McCartin is furious at a blog written by Labour councillor Terry Kelly, which she believes alleges she and two party colleagues are "on the take."

Councillor McCartin and two former LibDem councillors, Mike Dillon and Susan McDonald, are now talking to lawyers over the blog.

Councillor McCartin said: "Councillor Kelly has been writing vile, disgusting things about me on his blog.

"In his first blog after the recent election he again wrote abusive, and potentially libellous comments about me and my two colleagues, referring to the LibDems as being 'on the make and on the take'.

"We are not prepared to put up with this utterly improper language."

Asked by the Evening Times whether he stood by the blog, councillor Terry Kelly said: "Since I have already given an explanation and an apology as requested to Ms McDonald who was acting on behalf of Mr Dillon and Ms McCartin and it has been rejected, the matter is now in the hands of my lawyers."
