A councillor has been ruled to have broken the code of conduct, according to the Commissioner for Ethical Standards in Public Life in Scotland.
Alastair Cranston, an SNP councillor on Borders Council, was said to have used his position on the local authority to promote his business interests.
His punishment could involve suspension of up to one year.
