Forty pupils from Bannerman High, in Baillieston, were on the bus which collided with two cars on the A500 in Staffordshire

No-one was seriously hurt in the incident which happened on Monday.

It emerged yesterday that the coach driver had been arrested.

A spokesman for Glasgow City Council said: "Two coaches of Bannerman High School pupils were returning from a school trip to Alton Towers.

"Almost 45 minutes into their homeward journey the coach carrying the senior pupils was involved in an incident at a roundabout.

"The police and an ambulance attended and thankfully they only had to treat a couple of young people for very minor injuries.

"The police are now investigating the incident.

"A decision was taken at the scene of the incident for youngsters to call their families to tell them they were ok.

"Any child that didn't have a mobile phone was able to use one belonging to a teacher or use the pay phones at the service station."

A police spokeswoman said: "Police arrested a 48-year-old man from Stirlingshire at the scene in connection with the incident and he remains in police custody.

"Fortunately, no one was seriously injured in the collision."

The pupils are understood to have been travelling in a coach operated by Stirlingshire-based Davies Coaches when the accident happened.
