Cumbernauld has been nominated for the title of the most dismal town in Scotland.

Urban Realm magazine placed the Lanarkshire town in the running for the annual Plook on the Plinth Carbuncle award, which it has won before.

Also in the running are the Fife town of Lochgelly and Aberdeen. The magazine said Aberdeen is "where architecture goes to die".

Editor John Glenday said: "Aberdeen has a rich granite heritage and in the Victorian era the city was built to last. Sadly the same can't be said of the flimsy, ill-considered buildings going up today."
