HUNDREDS of cyclists dressed in the famous Harris Tweed took to the streets of Glasgow yesterday to raise cash for charity.

Dapper gents and chic ladies styled in the finest wool got on their bikes for the fourth annual Harris Tweed Ride through the city cheered on by supporters and a few sheep.

They set off from the Blythswood Square Hotel and took in tourist spots including the Finnieston Crane, Glasgow Green and Kelvingrove Park along the way.

Proceeds from the bike ride will go to The Linda Norgrove Foundation which is based on the Hebridean Island of Lewis where Harris Tweed is made.

Previous donations have gone to setting up girls' schools and teaching orphans tailoring skills in Afghanistan.

After years of losing out to synthetic fabrics, wool is now back at the heart of the fashion and textiles industry while Harris Tweed - made from 100% wool - is at the forefront of that movement.

Prince Charles, a fan of Harris Tweed, became a patron of the ~}Campaign for Wool when the industry reached a low point.
