GLASGOW is to host a lucrative dance event which will see thousands of dancers from around the world flocking to the city.
For the next three years the United Dance Organisation World Street Dance Championships will be held in the city at the Clyde Auditorium and SECC.
The event, held this year from August 23-25, has competitors from more than 30 countries.
"The Worlds" are expected to attract around 6000 people to the city and between now and 2015 the event is expected to pull in £7million for the economy.
Glasgow City Council leader Gordon Matheson made the announcement, with Perri Kiely and Jordan Banjo from dance group Diversity and UDO representatives, at the Clyde Auditorium.
They were joined by aspiring street dancers Abbie Hughes, 6, Tiree Stewart, 7, and Jay Logan and Nicole Le-Drew, both 10, from St Thomas' Primary School in the city's East End
Councillor Matheson, who is also chairman of Glasgow City Marketing Bureau, said the announcement "marks the first step in positioning the city as the global home of street dance over the next three years".
