A DARTS world champion called into a Glasgow school to officially open a new academy.

Gary Anderson was at Bannerman High School to unveil his Darts Academy which he hopes will provide youngsters with a chance to increase their maths and communications skills as well try something new.

The club will be running after school hours as an extra curricular activity which is free to all the pupils.

The £500 worth of equipment was donated by Unicorn, Gary's sponsor.

Gary attended the school three years ago during a charity event, helping to raise money and he was then keen to open a darts club.

PE teacher Norman Patterson, said: "The club was in demand.

"We had to get permission from the head teacher as this isn't your standard PE activity.

"We thought of the benefits that the club would bring and it helps the kids to develop their adding and subtracting.

"So this was how we got permission."

At the official opening yesterday morning, around 150 children queued up to meet Gary and to join the club.
