A 23-year old woman has become the second victim of a horrific hotel incident that claimed the life of her mother.

Police said Nicola McDonough, who was been fighting for her life since Friday, died in hospital today.

Her 52-year old mother Margaret died shortly after being discovered with severe injuries in a room in Greenock's Premier Inn.

Both women came from Paisley. Nicola died in Greenock's Inverclyde Hospital, where she had been "critical" since being found

Police Scotland say they are keeping an open mind into the incident and are not looking for anyone else in connection with it.

Today police also said there had been a new sighting of the two women in Balloch on Thursday morning.
A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “At the moment we are not looking for any third party in connection with this incident.
“However, we would like to make it clear we are keeping an open mind.
“There was a sighting of the two women in Balloch at around 11am on Thursday.
“We are therefore appealing to the people of Paisley, Greenock and Balloch to come forward if they have any information on the movements of the women.”
CCTV evidence was also being checked to establish if anyone else was involved in the incident, although this has since been ruled out.
