A boy racer faces being locked up after a crash resulted in the death of his teenage friend.
Darren Jackson lost control of his convertible BMW before it flipped and ploughed into a wall in Bargeddie, Lanarkshire, in 2008.
Jackson’s passenger Anthony Reilly (17) suffered horrendous head injuries and later died.
At the High Court in Glasgow, the 20-year-old has been convicted of a charge of causing death by dangerous driving.
Jackson a first offender was allowed bail but is expected to be locked up when he returns to court.
The jury heard how Jackson met 20-year-old Gary Martin in Coatbridge on May 29, 2008 and they decided to go for a drive in each of their cars.
Mr Reilly left Mr Martin’s car and got into Jackson’s.
Jackson was said to have then “engaged in a race” with Mr Martin, driving over speed limit.
Mr Martin, who knew both the accused and Mr Reilly, said he gave up trying to catch up with Jackson in the incident.
Mr Martin said he later remembered seeing Jackson’s car lights face his Ford and then “it was a blur”.
He stopped in Langmuir Road, Bargeddie, and went to help his friends.
Jackson, of Wick Avenue, Airdrie, suffered only minor injuries. He was banned from driving and sentence was deferred.
