The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is working with police after the 66-year-old, who is believed to have been working as a mechanic, was found dead in Belmont Lane, in the West End.
After the body was found on Wednesday at around 5.10pm, police closed off the lane and interviewed people nearby.
Police Scotland said the post mortem was due to be carried out next week.
A spokeswoman from the HSE, which investigates work- related deaths, said: "The investigation is in the very early stages. We are working with Police Scotland."
