A GLAMOROUS designer who has been featured in the pages of Vogue was so inspired by Glasgow that she dedicated her latest creation to the city.

Silvia Pellegrino, who launched her label Chouchou Couture five years ago from her Finnieston studio, is currently in Barcelona, Spain, working to expand her business.

The 34-year-old, who was born in Italian capital Rome, is known for her luxury Hollyhoods, which are sold across the UK, Europe, the US and as far afield as Australia.

But while enjoying the Spanish sun, Silvia finally succumbed to requests from Scottish customers to create a hood suitable for the rain - and she's called it 'Glasgow'.

Silvia said: "Well Glasgow is always at the centre of all of our inspiration.

"The funny thing is that when we started to make hoods five years ago people got so excited and said they were perfect for the rain.

"But I had always thought of the hood as a luxury item and I didn't want them to get wet because they were made of wool.

"So finally I put up a white flag and once I found suitable material I was able to do it."

Silvia said it was part of "Glasgow's weekly experience to have the rain".

She added: "A lot of people don't like that they have to change the way they dress for the weather, and they might feel unfashionable.

"I thought I needed to find a way to change the perspective of the weather.

"The Hollyhood Glasgow is waterproof, reversible and it's colourful, like Glasgow."

Silvia revealed to the Evening Times in May 2013 that she was inspired by famous architect Charles Rennie Mackintosh and his wife Margaret.

She regularly travels and has lived in Amsterdam, Los Angeles and London.

However, she always comes back to Glasgow.

"Glasgow's my home," said Silvia.

"For me the Glasgow community is so important."

She hopes the hood will give people shelter in the rain but also make them stand out.

There is a second Hollyhood Glasgow, which is showerproof and covered in roses.

Silvia said: "They are both really vibrant to reflect the city."
